George Carlin, Defender of Freedom

George Carlin is my hero. He has been my hero for years, pushing the envelop until it was almost over the edge. He was a brilliant commedian and his ability to see the world through the bull shit will be missed.

Awesome Biker Nights

Well we finally did it! After two years of talking smack about how bad-ass it would be if we could have our bike at Awesome Biker Nights, our bike sits on 4th Street. I personal did not think it was going to happen this year either. My son Beau and a couple of his friends did some very late nights working to put it together. Now keep in mind that Beau has a full time job with Harley Davidson after working all day at the shop he needs to work the booth for Roosters on Friday night. Then again after working all day at Roosters he ran the Photo Booth for iZZon on Saturday Night. I went over to his house on Sunday morning and he was vacuuming the basement. It must be nice to be young!

Now you might notice that it is missing a few parts, but in a few weeks it should be running down the back streets and Highways of Sioux City. So keep your children off the streets.

Summer is here! Seniors are coming!

Seniors are coming in and getting their senior photos done. We always have a ball with the kids. I've tagged the wall for 2009. Here are some images we've taken. When it gets busy I may not post everyone we take on the blog but don't be sad! It's just due to time restrictions.

Regular readers may recognize the family below. We did their wedding about 10 months ago. We have a trend here at iZZon photography that is rather unique. Several of our couples have gone on their honeymoon to come back expecting! It's like the fertility gods are hanging out at our studio! Don't let that scare you but it does seem to be happening alot here! To our couple who just had their baby, Congrats and the same to our newlyweds! You know who you are! Heck, it even happened to our son and daughter in law!

Happy Father's Day!

Just wanted to say Happy Father's Day to all our dad's out there! I sure miss mine so if you have one, be sure to spend some time with him.

Our Chopper Project

Last week the chopper came home from our fabricator Harley Van Kirk. He owns “The Chop Shop” out of Jefferson, SD. Harley did an incredible job with our bike, we can’t thank him enough. Beau, my son, has tore the bike back down and sent it off for paint. I didn’t even get a picture of it with the rear fender and sissy-bar completed.

You can see more pix at Harley’s web site, www.jeffersonchopshop.com.

Deadly storms in western Iowa while we hold a senior portrait session.

Last night we were taking photos of a senior and trying to dodge the rain that threatened to make a portrait session damp when we noticed the black clouds to our east out near Bacon Creek Park. Our immediate thoughts were to those east of us. Those folks were getting more rain that they didn't need,  we shook our heads in disbelief, and got on with the fun at hand. This gal wanted to get some photos with a horse so we went to her uncles home on the east side of town. It was a great shoot and she has some wonderful images. He was talking about a storm that had just rolled over his land, blowing over his lawn chairs and swing. We were a little surprised because the sun had come out and it was a beautiful evening.

While we were taking photographs, however, to the south of us, a boy scout camp near Little Sioux was hit by a deadly tornado 60 miles south of Sioux City. Boy scouts from the tri-state area were there for leadership training. Four young men were killed and over forty people hurt in and around the camp. We are all stunned by the devastation and death of this storm. Our hearts go out to the boys' families and loved ones.

It's all good!

The joy of owning your own business is you can work when you want but the truth of the matter is we work all the time. We work because our work is play! We visit with really cool people and do exciting things every day. People come to our studio and we do not have a planned setting. How can we keep our work fresh if everything is planned? Appointments are planned but not what we are going to do. It is the way we challenge ourselves to think outside the box and while we have certain places we like to use outdoors and backgrounds we use repeatedly, we strive to give everyone's portrait a bit of its own uniqueness.

Check these images out. I think you'll agree!

Senior Portrait setting cheaper than a tank of gas!Free wallets before 7-31

I just filled up with a tank of gas and it cost $48 plus some change!icon_eek Our senior portrait settings cost $48.15 with tax so it is cheaper to have a portrait taken then to put gas in your car...AND the memories will last a long time!! Seniors, remember, if you book and take your portraits before July 31st, you will get 8 FREE wallets, plus every senior gets a Keepsake Memory Book and a web gallery. T-shirts to those who show up first. Book now, especially you gals who want flowers in their background! The gardens are lovely this time of year.

When it rains...

It has been a very hectic couple of days in the studio but as usual, very lucky and happy ones as well. Eric gave the low down on our tree incident and it was really cool of Wright Tree Service to 'gitrdone' in the storm. Very cool, fellas, very cool!

We also had a computer fail but because we back up, back up, back up, it did nothing but create cost for us and time delays for our clients so if we are running behind in getting those images up on the web, we sincerely apologize but never fear, they will be up by today!

This young man graduated this year and could have cared if he got his senior portraits taken but his grandmother, (a client of ours and we met her whole family last year, we've been adopted by them and they by us), said, "Go to izzon." Anyway, here is one of his senior shots. His dad and his sister was here, too, so we threw them into a few and here is one of them as well.

We also took some engagement photos and here is a couple who we are looking forward to working with. They are going to have a winter wedding so they wanted to have some sunny outdoor shots for their engagement images and we were able to take a few before the rain came down! They are great!

Always ready for a road trip, we went to Sioux Falls for a wedding this weekend and got some great environment shots of this couple at the Falls Park!

Raceway Park was busy last night! Folks seem to like the photos Eric's been taking. Me, I get to jack my jaw all night with nice people, and for those who know me, I like to talk so its all good!

Last Nights Storm

Ok, here is a funny one. A tree fell on the house and power lines last night. Denise called Mid-American and they came out right away. They started working on the downed limb and it started to rain. Denise and I was talking and decided that we should get a photo in case there was any damage to the roof, we could call the insurance company and get it fixed. Not thinking about anything but getting the photo, I adjusted the flash to full power +1 ¾. I took the photo and the guy in the bucket screamed “Shit” He thought it was lightning.icon_lol Later he asked, “Why I would have such a powerful camera” I explained that this is our photography studio and, “It’s what we do for a living.”

It was Wright Tree Service and they did an excellent job. They was there with in a half hour and worked on it threw the heavy rain, even after I almost gave that guy a heart attack.
